a beautiful museum with a view of sea

Miyajima island is beyond the sea

Have you been to Miyajima island in Hiroshima, Japan?

It’s really well-known for the world heritage site that is visited by people all over the world. If you visited there, you might notice a big building halfway up the mountain over the sea.

A big building halfway up the mountain

There may be the building in your photos. Because the building can be seen through the Itsukushima Shrine Trii Gate. Therefore the building is a bit mysterious. We had been curious about the building.

Hiroshima citizens also don’t know much about the building. So my friends and I walked to the mysterious building to figure it out. The building standing in the mountain is bigger than you think.

It took 1 hour 15 minutes from Miyajima-dai Station. I recommend you to use a taxi so you can get there in 18 minutes:D

The building is an art museum named UMI-MORI Art Museum: Umi no Mieru Mori Bijyutsukan in Japanese. It is owned by a sect of Buddhism so there are three golden Buddha statues placed on the roof. It looks like the floors except art museum are used for religious events.

The place is large and there is a beautiful garden on the way to the entrance.

Something religious stuff can be seen.

Ukiyo-e Exhibition

Now, the museum is holding Ukiyo-e exhibition.

There is a Perfume Flacons Exhibition Room. Old gorgeous perfumes are displayed in showcases.

Ukiyo-e

Lots of Hiroshige Utagawa Ukiyo-e are displayed in showcases. Katsushika Hokusai

There are a few Katsushika Hokusai’s Ukiyo-e.

There is a beautiful terrace with a wonderful view. Miyajima island can be seen over the sea.

It is just an art museum. That exhibition was wonderful. We did not expect to see famous Ukiyo-e here. There are a cafe, and restaurants. We can enjoy there.

This is a great place in the great nature. I strongly recommend you to visit this place.
