Hi guys,
Do you believe ghosts?
I do not. Because I never seen ghosts.
This month, Japanese Ghosts Exhibition was held in the Hiroshima City Library. Please see the photos below. They are kawaii like manga or animated characters. Japanese ghosts are different from ghosts like a violent Jason in Friday the 13th.

Our eyes have sensors for the light shown in the photo below. Other animals such as birds have more sensors including for Ultraviolet light so they can see more colorful world. They may be able to see something like ghosts we can not see.

There are legends in my town. I passed by the following statues before but I never thought them well. I just thought they were made for kids. lol
KAPPA
There is a legend about this monster living in this river. The monster resembles a monkey and was thought to drag people in this river during the time of flooding. The river was named after the monster. Last month, a teenager died in this river…. Long time ago, people believed Kappa and gave guts of sardines as offerings to the Kappa.
OSAN KITSUNE
There is a legend about the fox with super natural powers. The specter often cheated people long time ago.
Lafcadio Hearn
Speaking of Japanese ghost stories, Lafcadio Hearn( Japanese name : Yakumo Koizumi) is very well-known. He is British born in 1950 in Greece. At the age of 19, he moved to USA and worked as a journalist. In 1980, he finally came to Japan as an English teacher. He lived in different cities and understood Japanese cultures, customs, and sprits deeply. He left behind 18 great works. These books were introduced to overseas to let them know about Japan things.

I think his masterpiece is “KWAIDAN”. He compiled legends which handed down in distinct from antient times into “KWAIDAN”. There are lots of stories in the book. “Mimi nashi Houichi(English title : Hoichi the Earless) and “Yuki Onna (Snow Woman in English title)” are well-known among them. When I was young, I read both stories.
The stories were made into a cinema.
Snow Woman
How about ghost stories in your countries? I know Grimm Fairy Tales. Narnia Kingdom Story….
Ghost stories are scary but I have a tendency to watch them.
