JAPAN / HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year! I hope you are enjoying New Year with family members or friends.

Today, as usual, I went to a mountain near my house to watch the 1st sunrise. It is believed to bring luck. I waited the sunrise for 20 minutes in the cold weather in the mountain. The temperature fell below the freezing point. I really hate the cold ;;

Then we had Osechi foods in the morning just like every other year. Osechi foods are special Japanese traditional dishes. This is my family’s Osechi foods: vinegared vegetable, Japanese sake, miso soup with a rice cake and vegetables, blackbeans, and fish cakes&ham.

Next, I went to a Shinto Shrine to pray for our health, good business, and peace. This is also an annual event. I think lots of Japanese cultures are based on Shinto.

I did not know what this was but two old style Samurai at the entrance were cool
