REVIEW OF SOFT(LOW CONTRAST) IMAGE AND HIGH CONTRAST IMAGE
There is not a big difference of brightness level.
This is a low contrast image(=soft image)
There is a big difference of brightness level.
This is a high contrast image. It is a clear image.
I took this photo in front of a cafe. The photo is dark and the cafe looks very old. However, the cafe is new and pretty in the real world.
Let us make this photo a soft image.
The blue sky is bright, while the cafe is dark. There is a big difference of brightness level. Like I did in the previous blog, I will increase the brightness level of the dark area using SHADOW function to reduce the difference.
SHADOW function can either increase or decrease the brightness of the dark area.
I moved the slider towards the positive direction to increase the brightness of the dark cafe.
The brightness of the cafe was increased !
As I explained in the previous blog, when you increase the brightness, basically, you need to increase the color.
SATURATION function can either increase or decrease the color of your photo.
I moved the slider towards the positive direction to increase the color a little bit.
DONE. This is the soft image. You can compare the result with the original.
But, I am seeing a dark photo. So I will fine-tune the brightness. Now, the light of the sun can be seen slightly on top left. I will increase the brightness of the light using HIGHLIGHT function to add a shine to this photo
HIGHLIGHT function can either increases or decrease the brightness of bright area.
I moved the slider towards the positive direction to increase the bright area.
Let us compare the original with the edited image.
The left side is the soft one while the right side is the original. The left side is a soft image, right?
You can make a soft image using CONTRAST function.
CONTRAST function can make a strong contast image or a soft image.
It either increases or decreases the brightness level between dark area and bright area.
