Since Isaac Newton did an experiment with sunlight and prism, you may know the sunlight has many colors like rainbow.

You might used filters or simple saturation function to enrich colors of your photos.

Color has a big power. Color give an energy into your photo.
This time, I’ll show you how to make photogenic photos with rainbow color adjustment function on Affinity Photo 2.
Affinity Photo 2 software

Affinity Photo 2 is a professional software like Photoshop. The functions are very similar to Photoshop.
What is rainbow color?
Let us define the rainbow colors. Red, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, and Purple in this blog.
Affinity Photo 2 function can change the shades of rainbow color respectively.

This time, I am making the following photo a photogenic one. This is my friend with rainbow hairs. It’s a good example. 😀

Saturation Function
To begin with, let us use a simple saturation function for comparison. Any apps have it.
Saturation function can increase/decrease color. It increases/decreases all color. The function on Affinity Photo 2 is called HSL. H is Hue, S is Saturation, and L is Luminosity.

This is the HSL window. We can increase/decrease color on Saturation Shift slider. It’s easy.

As we increase saturation, her hair strands become vivid. However, her face becomes too reddish.

So let us decrease the saturation until her skin tone becomes natural.

This is the result. Let us compare the original one and the edited one. It’s improved and became lively.

Rainbow color adjustment
Next, let us change red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple color respectively.

1. RED

It’s easy to change Red color. Click red circle then move the slider. It changes skin tone and red hair strands. Red color can not increased over 37% for this photo because the face becomes reddish as I did first.
2. Yellow

Click yellow circle and adjust the slider. Yellow hair strands becomes vivid.
3. Green

Let us move the slider until green strands hair become vivid.
4. Cyan

Let us move onto the cyan color.
5. Blue

Click the 6th button of blue color.
6. Purple

Finally, let us enrich purple background color. Done!
Comparison
Lastly, let us compare the original photo and edited ones.
1. Original photo versus photos enriched color with simple saturation function

2. photo with saturation function versus photo with rainbow color adjustment

Original photo versus photo with rainbow color adjustment

Can you see the difference? The photo with rainbow color adjustment is more vivid. You can change color whatever you want. This is just an example of how to make a photogenic photo.
Color is like a magic. We’re seeing the magic of light. This time I used Affinity Photo 2. You can do it on Photoshop and other apps.
I hope you can adjust many color and make photogenic photos!
