JAPAN / Hiroshima Military Cemetery -We touch on 200-year-old history

Hi there, How are you doing? The daily new cases dropped sharply here in Japan. I do not know the reason why but hope we can return to a normal life very soon.

Today, I would like to introduce a Japanese military cemetery hear my house. Accidentally, I found the place but I never entered the place because it was a holy and I did not have any relations to the cemetery. However, I saw lots of people going through a gate many times so I also followed them. lol. It was the spring season when cherry blossoms were in full bloom.

Hopefully you can enjoy the video! .

You can see the scenery of the cemetery and know its overview. So I am giving supplementary explanations about French, German, and Chinese graves here. I was not able to understand the meaning of the words engraved on the graves but my German and French friends watched the video and then translated/checked/explained it. Thanks for corporations.

This is a German grave. This grave was a mystery for us. What is OPAPE? First, we did not know whose grave this was. My German friend checked the words engraved on the grave and solved this mystery.

“OPAPE” seems the name and “CEB” and “CEST” might be “GEB” and “GEST” in German. “GEB” is born, and “GEST” is died in English. So the owner of the grave was born in Feb 1885 and died in March 19. It is an old or wrong style German grave and is different from graves in Germany.

Second, as for French graves, my French friend found articles, “Wounded during the siege of Peking during the Boxer War (1900), they were evacuated to Japan, where they died. All seven are buried in Hiroshima. The names of the 7 soldiers. Jean Bourgeade, Corentin Postic , Louis Marie Carrour , Joseph Dorel , Jules Lebeau, François Cohendy François Lelièvre.

Last, this is a Chinese grave. 慈恩塔 is Chinese character but it is not Japanese word, it seems the graves for the victims in Taiwan.

I thought the graves were for the people died during WWII but most of them are the graves for the people died 200 years ago. The graves are different from the current ones. It is interesting. I touched on old history.

Hope you can enjoy this blog;; Keep safe. See you again!
